Bangkok On (bangkokon.com) lists events in Bangkok on a map. This page says what personal data we keep, why, who else handles it and how to ask us to see, change or delete it. It follows Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
What we keep and why
- Your account: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google or Facebook. We use them to sign you in and keep your saved events and places.
- Saved events, saved places and trip dates: the places you add (for example home or hotel), with their address and map position. We use them to sort events by distance from you. When you search for an address, the text you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's address search services (Nominatim and Photon) to find it on the map.
- If you are not signed in, the one place you can save stays in your browser. We don't receive it.
- The weekly email: your email address and the site language you signed up in, so we can send the email in that language. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Payments for Plus, the Trip pass and event listings: the plan or listing you bought, the amount and the payment status. Card details are handled by the payment provider; we never see them.
- Event submissions: the contact name and email you give with an event, so we can reach you about the listing.
- Messages you send through the contact page.
Event listings
Listings describe public events: the event's name, dates, prices, venue and organiser, taken from public announcements and written in our own words. If you are the organiser or performer and want a listing corrected or removed, tell us at bangkokon.com/contact and we will deal with it promptly.
Cookies and browser storage
- A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in.
- A language cookie, so the site opens in the language you chose.
- Browser storage for small settings: whether you have signed up for the weekly email (so we stop asking), and a visitor's saved place.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The map images load from OpenFreeMap, so their servers see your IP address, as with any website you visit.
Who else handles your data
We don't sell personal data. These services handle it for us:
- Wix: hosting, member accounts, the database, the weekly email and payments. Wix may store data outside Thailand under its own safeguards.
- OpenStreetMap's Nominatim and Photon: the address text you search for.
- OpenFreeMap: the map images (sees your IP address).
- Google or Facebook, if you choose to sign in with them.
How long we keep it
Account data, saved events and places stay until you delete them or ask us to close your account. Newsletter data stays until you unsubscribe. Payment records are kept as long as Thai accounting and tax law requires. Contact messages are deleted once they are dealt with, unless we need them for a dispute.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to stop using it, or to move it elsewhere. You can withdraw consent (for example to the weekly email) at any time. Ask at bangkokon.com/contact and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC).
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell members by email first.
