How an event gets on the map

Bangkok On reads the open web the way a diligent editor would, then an editor checks what it found.

  1. Collect. Venue sites, ticketing pages and listings found through web search, Eventpop, submissions from organisers, and Instagram or TikTok post links handed to us.
  2. Read. Pages are fetched politely (robots.txt honoured, identified crawler). Where a page publishes schema.org Event data we use that; otherwise Claude extracts the date, venue and price. Social posts come through the platforms' oEmbed, never scraped.
  3. Place. Venues are geocoded against our venue list, then OpenStreetMap. Anything outside Bangkok is dropped.
  4. Check. An editor reviews new listings and removes duplicates or mistakes. Blurbs are ours; we never copy a source's text or photos.
  5. Round up. Each Monday a draft "This week in Bangkok" post is written from verified listings, for an editor to publish.

Our crawler identifies itself as BangkokOnBot. If you run a site and would rather we did not read it, add a Disallow rule for it in your robots.txt or write to us.
